So, as I sit here refreshing the #wwohp hashtag on my computer, I feel I should do those of you venturing into the dark side a favor and suggest this book: Universal Orlando, 2010 Edition: The Ultimate Guide to the Ultimate Theme Park Adventure. I first heard of this book via the DIS (I think) before my first Universal trip in 2008. It has pretty much everything you need to know in an entire book.
By far, the most useful part of the guide for a Universal Orlando newbie is the detailed description of each attraction. Particularly in Universal Studios, this book has turned me onto attractions and shows that I honestly would not have visited without it. The first two which come to mind are Beetlejuice’s Graveyard Review, and the Horror Makeup Show. Similarly, the book also points out subtleties (such as some tributes to Kongfrontation in the Mummy) that the average tourist might miss.
It also has great descriptions of each hotel, which made me feel a lot better about staying at the on-site Universal hotels. Small tips that a guest might miss are also in the guidebook, just as the small price difference between some of the sit down restaurants and counter service. In depth descriptions are also available of the stores in Citywalk.
All in all, I highly recommend this guidebook.
