WDW Not Just for Kids Review: Animal Kingdom Lodge (Jambo House)

August 23rd, 2011 · 2 Comments

So, this trip was my first time staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge:  Jambo House.  By far, the biggest plus of AKL is the view.  I think I was upgraded to a savanna view, but no one said anything.  As such, I was surprised to be peering out my balcony and seeing a flipping giraffe walking [...]

August Update!

July 7th, 2011 · 3 Comments

So, remember how I’ve been changing my August trip from AKL to POP? Shortly before I went away, I was able to confirm my dates. It did not look like there were any discounts for my dates, but I figured I’d deal with it once I got home. I did check out a DVC point [...]

Quick trip planning update (or, adventures in hotelpickaphobia)

January 9th, 2011 · 1 Comment

So, yesterday I called Disney Reservations and switched from AKL to Pop Century.  Unless the discount fairy comes through for my dates, I couldn’t justify the cost of AKL.  I debated CSR, but I’m pretty meh on it. More excitingly, it sounds like the August 2011 trip is a go.  Woohoo!

WDW Not Just for Kids Review: The Swan Hotel

December 17th, 2010 · No Comments

I spent three nights at the Swan prior to my cruise.  I was kind of meh on this concept-I was not a fan of the Dolphin, it’s sister hotel, when I stayed there two years ago.  However, the price was right and I liked the concept of staying at an Epcot resort during the holidays.  [...]

WDW vs. Universal: Royal Pacific Resort vs. the Polynesian

July 28th, 2010 · 1 Comment

We are starting off this comparison with a visualization.  It’s July in Orlando.  You land in MCO, and get into a cab as your sweat is sweating and your sunglasses are steaming up.  You hop in a cab to get to your Universal Resort, Royal Pacific Resort (RPR).  As you walk down the entranceway, and [...]

How to: Get the Hyatt at the Orlando Airport on Hotwire

July 16th, 2010 · No Comments

Hotwire.com can be a great way to save money on your Orlando vacation.  With Hotwire, you do not see what hotel you are staying at until you pay (and it’s non-refundable).  I had gotten the Hyatt Orlando through Hotwire on my trip in 2008, and wanted to do so for my upcoming trip. I  had [...]

Trip planning updates July 10, 2010

July 10th, 2010 · 1 Comment

I’m tracking the rates for the Hyatt MCO on Hotwire for my August Universal Orlando trip, but I am hesitant to pull the trigger until my vacation time at work is finalized.  However, it appears I have a very good chance of getting the Hyatt for $69 for the night. I called them today to [...]

Disney World Basics: Tipping

May 24th, 2010 · 3 Comments

This post is a part of the 4th Disney Blog Carnival To begin with, I should probably confess that I’m a little loose when it comes to tipping.  When I lived in Mexico, I tipped my cabbies for over a month until I learned you don’t tip cabbies in Mexico.  In my book, tipping is [...]
