They are taking Mickey back to New York (song context, if needed). Those of us in the Northeast got some really awesome news on Wednesday-that Disney Cruise Line will be sailing out of New York Cityin 2012. The cruises will include eight-night Bahama cruises, Five night cruises to Nova Scotia, and two-night weekend cruises. The Bahamian cruises will include stops at Nassau, Castaway Cay, and Port Canaveral, these cruises also include a one-day Park Hopper ticket for the Walt Disney World Resort. The cruises to Nova Scotia will visit Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Saint John, New Brunswick (No park hopper to eat at Le Cellier will be included).

I’m wicked excited about the idea of DCL being just a train/car/bus ride away. In a perfect world, I would be all over the eight-night cruise. However, I am a)booked on Podcast Cruise 3.0 in December of 2012, and b)Reasonably sure I cannot afford it. I’m kind of meh on the whole Canada cruise concept, but I am giving serious thought to the two-night cruises. You can start booking them today. I am minorly disappointed it’s on a Legacy ship, as I am wicked excited to check out the Dream. DCL will also be sailing out of Galveston and Seattle in 2012.

Tech on a boat-redux

So I decided to quasi-unplug when I was on my cruise. I turned the data off on my phone. I really didn’t use my phone to text that much as it only worked when we were at sea, not near a port. Honestly, unplugging was kind of weird. As you know, my Droid Eris rarely leaves my hand, so not being connected felt funny. I remember sitting in a presentation about shopping, and instinctively wanting to check in. And let me tell you, not Tweeting immediately after I asked Jodi Benson a question seemed really odd. And oy, my inboxes and Google reader were an unholy mess. I do have to admit I nearly broke my unplugged plan-when I was on Castaway Cay I found that my Kindle had edge service. I used it to download a book-how cool is that? I can say I bought a certain book while freezing my carcass off on Castaway Cay. I pulled up the experimental browser, got my Gmail accounts to load-but then I was strong and didn’t. I’ll probably unplug on my cruise in 2012 as well.

However, the Kindle is the bomb dot com. I read a few books on my cruise, and could just carry it with me (sitting by a porthole, hearing the background loop, reading a trashy novel is one of my favorite memories of the cruise. I high recommend getting one if you travel at all.

WDW Not just for Kids Review: The Rainforest Room…

Rainforest Room

When on my cruise last month, I visited the Vista Spa’s open house the first day. If you are at all interested in checking it out, I highly recommend going. I had a tour (on the Wonder/Magic, the spa is exclusively 18+. On the Dream/Fantasy, there will be a teen spa). I enjoyed seeing the gym area, and the Rainforest Room. It was cold as anything that day-I thought I was going to turn into a Hedy-scicle at the sail away party. So after I finished at Palo, I headed onto the Rainforest Room.

The Rainforest Room is co-ed, so you wear bathing suits. I’m kind of a spa virgin, so I just took off my cover-up in the room with the lockers. I don’t think you’re supposed to do that. I was wearing a bathing suit, though, so whatevs.

I decided to start off in the sauna with the benches. My tour guide recommended it as his favorite. The benches are curved too fit into your back. It was really warm and comfortable. After that, I decided to try out the showers. Now, the next time I do the Rainforest Room, I plan on doing the Rainforest Room and washing my hair there. The showers smell awesome and are all over (like sideways as well as down). I then hung out in sort of the main area of the room on a lounger-it was really comfortable. I finished up in the “mild” steam room. Holy cow, that thing was like being in the WWoHP in August. If that’s the mild steam room….

I left the Rainforest Room (I probably spent 45 minutes in there, all told). I hung out in the dressing area-they had these great feet massagers. The lotion is awesome as well.

I’d definitely do the Rainforest Room again-if anyone out there wants to share a couple’s pass on PCC 3.0 (platonically ;)), I’m game.

Hey everyone! I’m home from my cruise. Disney Cruise Line is awesome and super adult-fan-friendly. I highly recommend it! Pictures will be going up on Posterous soon (certain speakers don’t permit their photos being out on the net, so I have to go through them to see which ones I can post). Of course there will be a full trip report, but oh em gee you guys! I asked flipping Jodi Benson a question. Seriously!
