Hard ticket events for adults….

Float at MNSSHP Oct 09Yay or nay.?  I was genuinely surprised that a poster on a Disney forum I frequent was saying he was thinking of attending Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party( MNSSHP).  As he goes to Walt Disney World frequently, I was surprised that he was questioning if something at Walt Disney World was not for adults.

I think that adult Disney fans have a harder time with “hard ticket” events than children for a very basic reason-tickets to MNSSHP and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (MVMCP) are not in anyway cheap, nor are they included in the cost of a Magic Your Way ticket or Annual Pass.  MNNSHP tickets run $57.46 for an adult ticket, and MVMCP runs the same.  However, a big pro of hard ticket events is that with a ticket, you can enter the park at 4pm, and you do not need a separate pass to get into the park.  I’m actually going to MVMCP before my cruise not only because it’s awesome, but also because it will enable me to get into the Magic Kingdom for less than a one day ticket.

Very Merry Christmas PartyThe first hard ticket party at Walt Disney World that I attended was Micky’s Very Merry Christmas Party in December of 2007. I went in looking forward to having a good time, but was amazed by what I saw.  The lines for rides were not existent, I later commented that I could see why some people do two parties-one for the events, one for the rides.  There were a myriad of characters around.  You can get “free” cookies and hot chocolate at locations around the park (there are also apple slices).  The shows by the castle are phenomenal.  The parade is the one that I grew up watching on Christmas Day on TV, and was so good I forgot about the guy who shoved in from of me at the last minute, blocking my view.  The fireworks were also great.  Although intended for kids, some of the coolest character interactions I’ve seen have been at the dance parties there.

For myself, one thing I really looked forward to when I went to my first Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party last October was the fact that adults can dress up as characters.  I went with an interpretation of Ariel’s “Kiss the Girl” costume, which was a)comfortable, and b)easy to piece together without sewing it.  Halloween is my favorite holiday, so to say that I was excited for this party would be an understatement.  I was not disappointed.  There were a myriad of trick or treating options.  Some of the coolest pictures I’ve ever taken in a Disney park, or have been in, were taken:  Me+Ariel in her late Grotto, me with the Cinderella coach, with with the hitchhiking ghosts.  I met Captain Hook, Meeko.  While I did not get my picture taken with them, Snow White and all seven dwarfs walking in a line through Fantasyland was cool to see.  The fireworks were unspeakably amazing.  The parade was as good as I’d heard it was-the drill team gravediggers from the Haunted Mansion were awesome.

So I think there is plenty for adults to do at a hard ticket event, even if you only ride rides.

This year, Mickey’s No So Scary Halloween Party will be held on — September 14, 18, 21, 23, 25, 28, 30
