I love many, many rides at Walt Disney World. However, my traditional first ride, and the one which gets me all nostalgic, is Splash Mountain. It was a ride both my father and I were looking forward to riding in my first trip in 1993, as it was still pretty new then (My mother, as she would every other time we rode it, had to “take our picture” ;) ). So, we were in the days before Fastpass, and my dad and I are meandering through the queue. We reach the boarding area, and my dad asks the Cast Member “Where’s the best place to sit to stay dry.” The Cast Member paused a moment, then said, “Sir, the exit is over there.” It’s been 17 years, and I still laugh every time I tell the story.

I loved Splash Mountain, and rode it on every trip. I love that the themeing is great, it’s just fun (I don’t care how many times you’ve ridden it, admit it-you brace yourself on Slippin’ Falls. You think you’re going to get hurt by the briar patch. You think you’re going down on the water, not rails. I still can’t figure out if the darn “Go FSU!” possum is an urban legend or not.)
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve taken to wearing moisture-wicking shirts and shorts on Splash Mountain. These enable me to be dry by the time I reach Liberty Square, without looking like a dork in a poncho.
Here’s a video to add a little Zip-a-Dee-Do-Dah in your Friday.

Great ride… LOVE looking at the photos after the ride. I have the best one of my kids when they were little.
I also have a t-shirt with those great words on it: “Dry is NOT an option”

Last September I had to ace out a bunch of rowdy teens so my wife and I could have the front seat in the log and I was 63 years old.
