Welcome to those of you joining me from A Disney Mom’s Thoughts and those of you who have just hopped aboard. I am the second stop on our Magical Blogorail.”
This month, we are sharing our favorite Disney Activity outside the parks. Mine, which will come as no shock to my regular readers, is shopping at Downtown Disney (DTD-I’m talking about the one in Orlando specifically, but I’ll get into why I prefer it to Anaheim later on in the post). Heck, I like it so much I’ve been known to cab it over there during a non-Disney Orlando vacation. I love it for the shopping, food and theming.
The largest draw in Downtown Disney in terms of shopping has to be the World of Disney (WoD), which I usually hit at least once per trip. As a Disney Visa Cardholder, I get a 10% discount on my purchases over $50 (similar discounts are available for Annual Pass holders as well). Because of this, I usually use my WoD stop to load up on souvenirs I’ve seen elsewhere on Disney property, including jewelry, pins and pens. It’s a really cool place to look around as well.
Other places I never miss on a trip to Downtown Disney are Mickey’s Mart (an under $10 store, although it seems like every trip more and more items are ones you can get anywhere on property, maybe its new version will help), Disney Days of Christmas, Basin, and Tren-D. I had a blast at the Little Miss Matched store in December, so I am looking forward to checking it out in its new location.
Foodwise, Downtown Disney is home to three of my favorite food experiences: Goofy’s Candy Company, Earl of Sandwich, and Planet Hollywood.
There are the Downtown Disney detractors who complain that every store there sells the same stuff, I’m not saying this is wrong, but I have to admit I prefer it to Disneyland’s version. I love Jamba Juice and Sephora, but there’s a Sephora five minutes from my house-I don’t need to go to one on vacation.
Thank you for joining me today. Your next stop on the Magical Blogorail Loop is Your Highway in the Sky.

I too love Downtown Disney! We generally schedule some time in our vacation to be able to spend at least half a day here. My kids love Once Upon a Toy and I think they believe it is an attraction in itself! :-)

I love going to Downtown Disney! We always go the first night we get to Disney, plus we go on our “rest day” too! The Christmas shop is one of my favorites and I love to eat at Earl of Sandwich!

That was my favorite activity too! :)
I’m a sucker for shopping and can spend hours at World of Disney. Glad to see we have a lot of things in common!

I love DTD, too. Our whole family does, actually. It’s just so much fun to people watch, eat, and shop there. We ate at Wolfgang Puck Express for the first time our last trip and LOVED it. Our daughter is in absolute Heaven in the WoD store (heck, I am too). And I know a lot of people say the food is horrible, but we always go to Rainforest Cafe. We’re fine with the food and our daughter loves all the animals and the thunderstorms so we have gone practically each trip so far.

I love DTD. We had a Basin here in Anaheim, but it left after Christmas. Kinda weird not seeing it anymore.

DTD shopping is so much fun. I especially like it around the holidays! I’ve stayed at SSR just so that I can take the boat over and shop:)

We often start there so the kids get one toy right away & don’t nag quite so much once we get to the Parks ;) Where is Mickey’s Mart? I’ve probably been in but didn’t realize.

We always spend a lot of time in Downtown. There is so much to see, much to enjoy and shopping for all seasons. Can’t beat the restaurants as well.

We skipped Downtown Disney on our trip because I just couldn’t see the kids putting up with that much shopping! I’m hoping to check it out one of these days, maybe if DH and I get a grownups-only trip!
